The Mysore Lancers
The Mysore Lancers were the personal army of the Maharaja of Mysore. For World War I, the Mysore regiment consisted of about 29 officers, 444 non-commissioned men with 526 horses and over 40 mules.
The Imperial Mysore Lancers was created by His late Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar Bahadur, Maharaja of Mysore on April 1, 1892 and was equal to Her Majesty’s Native Cavalry in Discipline, Training, Pay & Equipment.
His late Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar obliged the then British Administration led by Lord Chelmsford, Viceroy and Governor General of India to lend the forces of Mysore State and also rendered significant financial contribution.
Mysore Lancers, who along with Hyderabad Lancers and Jodhpur Lancers, fought a decisive battle victory against the Ottoman Turks and German army in the World War I especially the Battle of Haifa on September 23, 1918 which is known as the last ever Cavalry battle ever fought in history.
