Remembering The Indian Heroes of World War-I

The Mysore Lancers

The Mysore Lancers were the personal army of the Maharaja of Mysore. For World War I, the Mysore regiment consisted of about 29 officers, 444 non-commissioned men with 526 horses and over 40 mules.

The Imperial Mysore Lancers was created by His late Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar Bahadur, Maharaja of Mysore on April 1, 1892 and was equal to Her Majesty’s Native Cavalry in Discipline, Training, Pay & Equipment.

His late Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar obliged the then British Administration led by Lord Chelmsford, Viceroy and Governor General of India to lend the forces of Mysore State and also rendered significant financial contribution.

Mysore Lancers, who along with Hyderabad Lancers and Jodhpur Lancers, fought a decisive battle victory against the Ottoman Turks and German army in the World War I especially the Battle of Haifa on September 23, 1918 which is known as the last ever Cavalry battle ever fought in history.

Haifa Day Celebration

Every year on September 23, the Bravery & Valour of the Mysore Lancers in World War I (WWI) is celebrated. The day is also honored as Haifa Day.

To bring back the great memories of our forefathers, who laid their lives in the line of duty and recreate historical relevance of the bravery of the men of Mysore Lancers and imbibe the culture, commitment to national duty and pass it on to the members of the present generation.
